GST Registration

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax imposed on customers when goods are sold or services are provided. In 2017, the government took a significant step by abolishing multiple indirect taxes such as VAT, Excise duty, Octroi, Service Tax, and others, replacing them with the comprehensive GST Act. This new tax system streamlined the taxation process, making it more efficient and simplified for businesses and consumers alike.

What is GST Registration?

If a business entity is not registered under the GST Act, it is not allowed to collect taxes from customers and cannot avail the tax credit for GST paid. However, GST registration becomes mandatory when the annual revenues exceed the specified limits outlined in the legislation, based on the state category. At that point, businesses must comply with the GST regulations and fulfill their tax obligations.

The GST Act in India aims to unify businesses, consultants, service providers, and freelancers under a single tax system. This system encompasses the sale of goods and provision of services, ensuring a comprehensive and streamlined approach to taxation.
